Expanding Access To Community Support Services
Sierra County residents have a new way to find food, housing, health care and other essential services through a partnership with New Mexico YES and the statewide Findhelp.org network.
The collaboration is intended to make it easier for individuals and families to locate free or low-cost assistance. Truth or Consequences, Sierra County’s largest population center, helped develop and refine the resource database for use throughout the county.
“Connecting people with the right resources at the right time is one of the most important things we can do as a community,” officials said. “This partnership gives Sierra County residents a stronger, easier way to find support, whether they need help with food, housing, healthcare, or other essential services.”
New Mexico YES, also known as YES-NM, is the state’s official online portal for health and human services. Residents can use it to find, apply for and manage programs including Medicaid, SNAP food assistance and LIHEAP energy assistance.
Findhelp.org is a national social-care search platform that connects users with free or sliding-scale programs. Its directory includes local, regional and national services related to food, housing, health care, transportation, employment and legal assistance. New Mexico’s statewide YesNMConnect initiative is powered by Findhelp.
Residents can search the directory by ZIP code to find programs that fit their needs. The tools are confidential and designed to provide a centralized, easy-to-use directory, including services available to rural communities.
Find Help can easily be found at the city’s website at torcnm.gov under the Living in Our Community Tab.
Local organizations that serve Sierra County can submit or claim a listing on Findhelp.org. Providers are encouraged to keep service descriptions, hours, eligibility requirements and referral contacts current so residents receive accurate information.
Community members may also suggest organizations through the Findhelp portal. The Findhelp team will contact the provider to verify the information before adding the resource to the directory.
