Water Bottle Filling Stations Support City’s Clean & Beautiful Efforts

This month, the City’s Parks Department installed two new outdoor Global Industrial water‑bottle filling stations—one near the basketball courts at Ralph Edwards Park and the other in Evelyn Renfro Park beside City Hall—as part of the City and MainStreet Truth or Consequences' ongoing effort to reduce plastic waste through the New Mexico Tourism Department’s Clean and Beautiful Grant. The Clean and Beautiful Program provides funding and technical assistance to municipalities, counties, Tribal governments, and other local government units to support initiatives that reduce litter, improve waste‑reduction infrastructure, expand recycling opportunities, and enhance public spaces. Its statewide goals include preventing littering, increasing access to proper waste disposal, advancing reuse and recycling efforts, beautifying community spaces through sustainable design, empowering youth with service and leadership opportunities, and strengthening local capacity through volunteer engagement and professional development. These grant-supported projects help communities like ours make meaningful environmental improvements by enabling the installation of amenities that reduce reliance on single‑use plastics, encourage responsible stewardship of shared spaces, and create cleaner and more welcoming environments for residents and visitors. In the coming months, the Parks Department will expand these efforts by installing an additional filling station at the Louis Armijo Sports Complex and another in front of the Lee Belle Johnson Center once construction on Foch Street is complete—further advancing the City’s commitment to sustainability and public convenience.
