Car Charging Station

The city is continuing its commitment to sustainability and modern infrastructure with the installation of a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station on McAdoo Street. This project builds on the city’s existing EV infrastructure, which includes a charging station recently installed behind the former Denny’s location. Francis Energy completed the previous grant and installed the station at that location. This project is being led by Electric Department Director Bo Easley.

New Charging Station on McAdoo Street
The upcoming McAdoo Street station will feature a dual-port charger capable of serving two vehicles at once. Designed with future expansion in mind, the site will include pre-installed wiring to accommodate a second charger when additional grant funding becomes available. This fast-tracked project is expected to be completed within one year. The total cost is approximately $640,000, with initial funding borrowed from the city’s electric department. Once approved, the project will be reimbursed in a single payment, streamlining the financial process.

Infrastructure and Enhancements
A transformer needed for the station is already in stock, saving the city around $34,000. These savings will be redirected toward enhancements such as shade structures, solar panels, and ADA-compliant features. An additional $62,000 is allocated for enhancements instead of purchasing a pad-mounted transformer, and may be submitted for reimbursement through the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT).

With the existing EV charging station behind Denny’s already serving residents and visitors, the addition of the McAdoo Street station marks another step forward in making Truth or Consequences a more accessible and environmentally conscious community. These efforts reflect the city’s dedication to futureproofing its infrastructure while remaining sensitive to environmental and aesthetic values that matter to residents.
