Fiesta

The Truth or Consequences Fiesta is one of the city’s longest‑running community traditions, celebrated every year on the first weekend in May. What began as a small gathering has grown into a multi‑day festival that brings residents, visitors, families, and former locals together for a weekend of music, parades, food, and hometown pride.

A Brief History
The Fiesta tradition dates back to the early 1950s, shortly after the town changed its name from Hot Springs to Truth or Consequences. The first Fiesta was held to celebrate the city’s new identity and to welcome radio host Ralph Edwards back for the anniversary broadcasts of his show.Over the years, Fiesta evolved from a name‑day celebration into a beloved community festival. Generations of families have participated in the parade, volunteered with local organizations, and returned home each spring to reconnect with friends and neighbors. Today, Fiesta remains one of the most anticipated events of the year.

What Fiesta Looks Like Today
The modern Fiesta spans several days and features a mix of classic traditions and new activities each year. Highlights often include:

  • Fiesta Parade — Floats, marching groups, classic cars, and community organizations lining Broadway.
  • Live music & entertainment — Local and regional performers on outdoor stages.
  • Vendors & food booths — Art, crafts, festival food, and local businesses.
  • Family activities — Games, contests, and kid‑friendly attractions.
  • Lake events — Activities at Elephant Butte Lake, depending on the year’s schedule.
  • Community reunions — A chance for former residents and long‑time locals to reconnect.
Fiesta is organized with the support of local volunteers, businesses, civic groups, and the City of Truth or Consequences.

A Celebration of Community
Fiesta is more than a festival—it’s a reflection of the city’s spirit. It honors our history, showcases local talent, and brings people together in a way few events can. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first‑time visitor, Fiesta offers a welcoming, energetic, and uniquely T or C experience.
