Caballo Lake Trails

What You'll See
Caballo Lake Trails wind through a mix of shoreline habitat, open desert, and low hills overlooking the reservoir. Depending on water levels and the route selected, hikers may encounter sandy beaches, rocky shorelines, native desert vegetation, and expansive views of Caballo Lake.

Wildlife sightings are common and may include waterfowl, shorebirds, hawks, rabbits, and other desert species. Spring wildflowers occasionally add seasonal color to the landscape following winter moisture.

Getting There
Caballo Lake State Park is located approximately 17 miles south of Truth or Consequences along Interstate 25. Access points to hiking areas can be found throughout the park, including Eagle Point, Riverside Campground, and shoreline recreation areas. State park entrance fees may apply.

Bring plenty of water and sun protection, even during cooler months. Early morning and late afternoon hikes often provide the most comfortable temperatures and the best opportunities for wildlife viewing.
