Spring Canyon

Located in western Sierra County near the Gila National Forest, Spring Canyon offers visitors access to a scenic landscape of rugged canyons, desert shrublands, oak woodlands, and mountain foothills. The area's varied terrain and transition between desert and higher-elevation habitats create opportunities to observe a wide range of birds throughout the year. Like many locations on the edge of the Gila ecosystem, Spring Canyon rewards birders with species not commonly found in the lower elevations around Truth or Consequences and Elephant Butte Lake.

Visitors can explore a mixture of canyon habitats, rocky slopes, seasonal drainages, and upland vegetation. The combination of elevation changes and diverse plant communities attracts both resident and migratory birds.
